The career of a Fire Engineer

Last month saw the 10th anniversary of National Careers Week, which got me thinking about my lifetime career… I’m a Senior Fire Safety Design Engineer and Fire Risk Consultant, with thirty five years of experience.

I hold a B Eng. Hons Fire Engineering (UCLAN) 1995, and specialise in Building Envelope external wall investigations for ESW1, I am the MD of FSEC Ltd and PBA Ltd UK wide Fire Engineering, I served 30 years as a Fire Safety Manager in West Yorkshire fire service with an Honours degree (2.1) in Fire Engineering from the University of Central Lancashire. I travel around the country every day working with buildings old and new and meeting different people.

Every day is different for me and presents new challenges, I wouldn’t have it any other way. For anyone with a real interest and curiosity in fire, I would highly recommend it as a great career. Knowing the improvements I have made and the lives I’ve saved and potentially saved gives a feeling of true job and life satisfaction. – Pete Bailey.
